Born in Cap-Haitien, he was a pupil of the established art teacher Philome Obin, and looked upon as a favoured son. He was regularly exhibiting throughout the 1960s and 1970s, until he took a permanent job as a waiter on a cruise ship. He specialised in painting events and set pieces such as weddings.
