MARTIN OXLEY

Oxley's works are highly personal, mainly landscapes with associations, places he visits often and knows well. He forms an obsessive attachment to a specific place or landscape. He has a rigorous eye for composition and structure of each work, sometimes over-emphasizing a motif from nature (a formation of rock or tree trunk) in an idealised manner. Memory and invention play a part, but his work is essentially about observation of the landscape, and appreciation of the way it influences our lives. If you stop anywhere, and just look, you get the feeling that we are near the bones of our ancestors: everywhere has an imprint of us on it. At any time, we are always passing through a story - Martin Oxley
