Studied at Chelsea and Camberwell Schools, followed by course in portraiture in Florence. Beattie served with the British Army for many years, and often combined this career with his artistic one: he has been a war artist on several tours, notably to Basra, and twice in Bosnia. He has won many awards - both military and artistic - and received a number of important portrait commissions of politicians and Heads of State. His work has been included in many exhibitions, including a solo show at the National Army Museum.
