Bostock received a bronze medal for this work at the exhibition of sporting art, held in 1948, at the time of the London Olympic Games.

Studied at the Royal College, learnt printmaking from Bawden and Nash, Bostock was one of the leading wood engravers of the twentieth century. His prints were regularly exhibited, and he was a key member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers and the Society of Wood Engravers.
